Robyn Beeche lived in London in the late 1960s and from 1974 to 1992, though she had started to visit India on a regular basis from 1985. She was an important photographer of the fashion world, working extensively with designers such as Zandra Rhodes, Vivienne Westwood, Bill Gibb and Mary Quant. She also photographed leading figures in London during this time including Divine and Leigh Bowery. In recent years she has been living in Vrindavan, photographing the festivals, costume and textiles of India.
The model for the jewellery here is Scarlett who was well-known on the London scene in the 1980s. The images were created for the maker of the jewellery, the British artist Andrew Logan. His works range across the fields of decoration, sculpture, stage design, drama, opera, parades and festivals. He first came to prominence in the early 1970s as the founder of the Alternative Miss World. It was with Logan that Beeche began travelling to the Indian subcontinent, the influence of which is clearly reflected in this collaboration.
